Italy today is in crisis, a matter of fact. Especially labor crisis.
Can we recuperate? I say yes, as long as…
As long we seriously engage and invest in the things we do best. Starting again from the traditions that work and from crafts of artisans that seem to gradually disappear.
Today I want to talk you about a very interesting new project. We already are (you and I together) doing good, but when doing good – as well as in the business – requires a good dose of ambition and looking towards larger horizons.
So here’s this new project: Artisan Crafts.
The first trimester of activities related to Elfan Onlus’s project, ended this January. It was supported by us and by the Institute Banco di Napoli Foundation, specifically dedicated to women.
This is part of a larger project that Elfan Onlus is trying to put into action, named “WOMEN in Action…”, which involves the construction of a path of personal autonomy thru creative experiences, training and work.
It is an idea that came from the desire to help Campania region recover in a period of crisis for everyone, to recuperate starting from our own traditions, from old crafts.
Three young women take part in the course, Tatiana, Maria Antonetta and Fiorella, who during the first three months has have begun to learn the craft of the ceramist and knitter, becoming familiar with tools and the raw material, they designed and produced their first creations.
The three trainees have been examined by a Joint Committee of course teachers and experts in art and teaching, successfully passing the exam and giving them access to the second step of the project, where in addition to ceramics and knitwear, they will acquire creative sewing skills and the tools of interconnection of the various arts. Moreover, they will learn about laboratory organization and of communication and promotion of products.
Therefore, that’s what we want to do: take people by hand and put them in a profitable and stimulating working environment, helping them to stand on their own.
This is the style of all other projects as well: helping people to stand on their own.
A path of autonomy and emancipation.
I suggest you to take a look at the project “Creattiva” too, supported by our Foundation. We take crafts inside juvenile detention centers. There ceramic production helps to rehabilitate minors, but helps popularize an artisan knowledge that is a real first fruits of our land as well.
Since 2012 to today Angelo Affinita Foundation has donated more than 25 thousand euro helping more than 30 juvenile detainees. And every year other kids are selected to work. The intention is to do good to minors, but the artifacts they make aren’t just charitable products, but rather what we would like to turn into a startup with our e-commerce website.
My father used to say “it’s the man that makes the difference”.
