Mammut Territorial Center
Naples (2013 - on going)
The project
The "Centro Territoriale Mammut" was founded in Scampia in 2007 and, starting from Scampia, it decided to embark on an adventure of psycho-socio-pedagogical research and action inspired by active pedagogy. This adventure has been going on for more than fifteen years, involving thousands of children, teachers, educators, and psychologists. The research at Mammut focuses on how to make school a happy place for children and adults, improving learning and school attendance. It also looks into how to reduce the gaps between school and the community, restoring the city's vital potential.
The activities
- WORKSHOPS
Workshops for children covering written language and literature, anthropology, philosophical reasoning, art, and craftsmanship.
- THE MYTH OF THE MAMMOTH
Didactic experimentation workshops with schools in a research-action journey built around an integrative background to enhance teaching and reclaim abandoned areas of the city.
- UNIVERSITY ON THE STREET OF L’A.PE
Training for parents, teachers, educators, psychologists, and curious citizens carried out through cycles of experiential meetings based on self-experimentation or through meetings with professionals and activists for discussions on research topics.
- BARRITO DEI PICCOLI AND L'A.PE
The two magazines published by Centro Mammut are aimed at children and adults. They are used as a tool to keep alive the collective writing impulse that feeds the entire research, bringing out what has been experienced during the year with adults and children from the classroom.
